Data Science Projects

Here’s an overview of the data projects that I have contributed to as a data scientist at various organizations like the Mayor’s Office of Los Angeles, the Rockefeller Foundation, and World Health Organization.

The Covid-19 Variant Tracker transforms complex statistical research into a practical tool for global health. It empowers countries to explore their data, compare trends, and anticipate risks from emerging Covid-19 variants. The research model was conducted by the Rockefeller Foundation’s Pandemic Prevention Institute.

Role: Lead Data Scientist
Built and designed a Shiny dashboard that merges Bayesian modeling with global sequencing data to visualize COVID-19 variant trends, using DuckDB for data management and Plotly/Leaflet for interactive, user-centered visualizations.

The Africa Misinformation Portal (AMP) is a web-based tool that helps manage public health misinformation by collecting real-time reports from the field and using AI to analyze, categorize, and recommend responses. It creates tailored reports with WHO-approved resources, empowering local experts to take informed action. Built for the WHO in partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation.

Implemented AI model for signal detection, and deployed monitoring and evaluation system.

Internal dashboard for the Mayor’s Office to visualize underlying trends and the demographic breakdown of our vaccine distribution, allowing us to track and monitor our distribution strategy through an equity lens. This dashboard functions as a tool to reflect on our strategies, engage in dialogue, and iterate on the design to improve our policies and operations.

Role: Lead Data Scientist
Design and develop internal dashboard for tracking vaccines efforts. Build a data lake from our vaccine vendor's SFTP to a Redshift server

• Write SQL query to update and maintain database

• Automate data processing tasks on Civis

• Migrate dashboard from Civis to Google Cloud Platform

• Liaise with City attorneys and vendors to ensure HIPAA compliant data hosting

Vaccines outreach tool that brings together all types of data–COVID metrics, vaccine coverage, health indicators, pharmacy deserts, vaccine providers, etc–with features that allow the viewer to find local organizations, faith-based institutions, CBOs and service centers nearby. This tool has been shared with various stakeholders to help with our mobile strategy and outreach efforts.

Conduct UX and design workshops with key stakeholders to iterate on product features and design
